SUMMARY:Jill Barklem\, Brambly Hedge Artworks\, Illustration Cupboard Gallery\, London
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Jill Barklem. An exhibition of original sketches that have never previously been on show to the public. The exhibition runs from 11 May until 3rd June 2017. \nIllustration Cupboard Gallery is delighted to present a major solo exhibition of Jill Barklem’s original artwork from the much-loved Brambly Hedge books. \nBrambly Hedge Art\nThe mice of Brambly Hedge made their first appearance in 1980 when Jill Barklem’s four seasonal stories were published. Ever since\, readers have loved exploring the miniature world of the hedgerow and meeting the families that live there. This eagerly anticipated exhibition will showcase a significant collection of original sketches and illustrations from the infamous Spring and Summer stories that have been delighting adults and children alike for 37 years. This is the first time that this collection of artwork has ever been exhibited in the UK or made available for sale\, presenting an exciting and unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts. \nBrambly Hedge is an imaginary place\, but Jill’s love of the countryside\, combined with her in-depth research of the flora and fauna within it meant that the stories have become very real in many of our minds. To create each illustration\, Jill began with a complex series of sketches and notes that explored both the detail and the mechanics of the picture. She drew these preliminary sketches over and over again until the image in her mind was replicated exactly on the paper\, down to the smallest detail. This exhibition will give viewers an exciting insight into Jill Barklem’s world\, as well as an opportunity to view and purchase this complex series of preliminary sketches for the first time. \nTo celebrate the launch of this exhibition\, eclectic vintage furniture brand Rhubarb London have created a unique Brambly Hedge Storyteller children’s chair which magically plays an audio reading through speakers fitted to the inside of the wings. Lovingly upholstered in the traditional Brambly Hedge Field printed fabric\, with arms and legs intricately hand carved from ancient oak\, this handmade chair will be unveiled at the exhibition launch. \nThe Brambly Hedge Complete Collection will also be available for sale\, including all eight of the classic picture books brought together in one exquisite slipcased volume (Harper Collins\, £35) \nPrivate View\nOpening night private view and press reception on Wednesday 10th May\, 5.30pm – 8.00pm\, where Lizzie Barklem will be in attendance to meet guests. \nWeekdays 9:30am – 6:00pm\, Saturdays 11:00am – 5:00pm \nShare this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Google+ (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n\n	Related\n
